Open Volunteer Positions

Beavercreek Bulletin Volunteer Editor

The Bulletin has been in publication since 1998. People rely on it to stay informed of local activities – from Hamlet meeting recaps, spotlights on local residents, local news, local events, and more. As Volunteer Editor, you thrive on staying up-to-date with the Hamlet and want to ensure residents stay informed. We are seeking a self-directed individual to become the new Volunteer Editor, overseeing all aspects of the publication to ensure it is provided at no cost to residents. It’s a 20+ hour job per month for an individual or could be managed by a group. (The previous Editor’s whole family participated in bringing the Bulletin to life each month.)

Previous journalism or writing experience a huge plus, but if you have enthusiasm about the Hamlet and a willingness to learn – we’ll help guide you.

Editor duties include:

  • Discern which stories should be included each month from emails, Flash alerts, social media, local news coverage, and other sources.
  • Stay connected with local groups to be informed of activities including the Hamlet Board, Parks Committee, Beavercreek Grange, and others.
  • Write, copyedit and review all articles to be included.
  • Layout the Bulletin each month using Google Docs or another publishing tool.
  • Print at a local printer, pick up, and distribute the Bulletin to all dropoff points.
  • Manage all advertisers including invoicing, monitoring payments, receiving ads, and ensuring they’re published – as well as seeking new advertisers and reaching out for renewals.
  • Provide financials to BCCP at least once per year.
  • Update the beavercreekbulletin.org website monthly when a new issue comes out.
  • Promote the Bulletin via social media and the email newsletter.

Knowledge of WordPress, MailChimp, Paypal, and Google Docs are a plus. We used to used Scribus for layout (an open source publishing tool) but recently moved to Google Docs, which has its own quirks. The new editor is able to leverage the tools that work best for them.
